Things to do in Ouarzazate with a local guide

Around Ouarzazate the desert starts at the edge of town, so a short ride already reaches film sets, oases and old kasbahs. Choose a quad, a buggy or a horse on one of five guided routes, or plan a desert night with a camel ride. Every activity has its own page with prices, duration and what is included.

Quad biking

About quad biking

For most visitors, a quad is the easiest way to leave the tarmac behind around Ouarzazate. Each rider steers their own all terrain machine and follows a local guide over stony plateaus, dry riverbeds and the tracks between villages. The shortest outing is a one hour run to the Kingdom of Heaven film set; the longest fills a day with Ait Ben Haddou and the Fint oasis.

Buggy tours

About buggy tours

In a buggy you sit low and steer with a wheel, with a passenger seat at your side and a guide in front showing the way. People who would rather share the drive than ride alone tend to prefer it. The routes match our quad rides exactly, from one hour at the Kingdom of Heaven set up to a whole day crossing the region.

Horse riding

About horse riding

Seen from the saddle, the country around Ouarzazate unfolds at walking pace: fords beneath palm trees, peaceful lanes through villages and the mud walls of old kasbahs. A guide rides with you and chooses a horse that suits how much you have ridden. Pick a one hour ride to the Kingdom of Heaven set, two hours to Kasbah Tifoultoute, or set aside longer for Fint or Ait Ben Haddou.

One set of routes, three ways to travel

Quad, buggy and horse rides share the same five destinations, so you can compare like for like. The difference is the experience: a quad is ridden astride and follows every movement of the ground, a buggy is driven seated at a wheel, and a horse covers the ground at a calmer pace.

  • Kingdom of Heaven film set, 1 hour
  • Kasbah Tifoultoute, 2 hours (the quad and buggy routes add the cinema studio)
  • Fint oasis, 3 hours
  • Ait Ben Haddou, half day
  • A full day combining the main sites

What every ride includes

A personal guide who rides with you, a well maintained quad or buggy or a trained horse matched to your level, a helmet and safety equipment. The pace and route are adapted to the group, and groups of 1 to 20 people are welcome.

Camel rides are part of our desert tours rather than a separate outing in town. The camel rides page explains exactly where and when they happen.
