Ait Ben Haddou by Quad: Half Day Off Road from Ouarzazate

Half a day of off road riding through villages and dry riverbeds to the UNESCO listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, with time to explore on foot.

  • Duration: Half day
  • Destination: From Ouarzazate to the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou
  • Group size: 1 to 20

Instead of the main road, you reach Ait Ben Haddou the long way round. From the outskirts of Ouarzazate your guide takes you over rocky plateaus, down dry riverbeds and through scenic valleys, past remote Berber villages and viewpoints that most visitors never see.

The ride ends with the ksar rising out of the landscape, its earthen houses climbing the hill. You park the quads and have free time to walk the lanes, look at the clay architecture and climb to the old granary at the top for the view.

Ait Ben Haddou is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and film fans will recognise it from Gladiator, Game of Thrones and Kingdom of Heaven. Your guide fills in the history and the filming stories, and a tea break with a view is possible.

Where it happens

The route links the edge of Ouarzazate with Ait Ben Haddou, about 30 km away, on desert tracks, plateaus and dry riverbeds rather than tarmac. The visit of the ksar itself is on foot.

Who it suits

Each rider steers their own quad, so it suits people who want to drive rather than sit back. First timers are welcome: the guide adjusts the route and the speed to the group, and experienced riders get more open ground. Groups of 1 to 20 can ride together. If anyone in your group is young, has a health condition or is pregnant, tell us when you send the request so we can confirm the ride is suitable.
