Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga
Erg Chebbi, near Merzouga, is reached in about five hours via the Skoura palm grove and the Todra Gorges, so it fits a two day plan. Erg Chigaga has no hotels at all: its dunes lie about 60 km off road beyond Mhamid, six hours from Ouarzazate, which makes three days the comfortable choice. Mhamid's own dunes, Erg Lihoudi, are closer, at about four and a half hours.

Camp and comfort
The standard camp uses nomad style tents of camel and goat wool. A luxury camp is available on request, at extra cost on some tours, and is worth considering in the cold winter months. On the three day Erg Chebbi tour, hotels with a pool at the edge of the dunes are possible if you prefer not to camp.

How far are the dunes from Ouarzazate?
Erg Chebbi is around five hours each way. Erg Chigaga is about six hours, including the off road section from Mhamid, and the Mhamid dunes about four and a half hours.
Can I upgrade to a luxury camp?

Are desert tours private?
