Things to Do in Ouarzazate, Sorted by the Time You Have
A local planner for Ouarzazate: what fits into two hours, half a day, a full day or an overnight trip, from Taourirt kasbah to the dunes.

Ouarzazate rewards planning by the clock rather than by a checklist. The town itself is compact, the film studios sit at its western edge, and the oases, kasbahs and desert tracks start within a short drive. What you can do depends mostly on how many hours you have, so this guide is organised that way: from a free morning in town to a night under canvas in the dunes.
If you have two hours
Two hours is enough for one strong experience, either in town or on a trail just outside it.
Walk Taourirt kasbah and the Cinema Museum
The Taourirt kasbah stands on Boulevard Mohamed V in the middle of town. It was a residence of the Glaoui family, and the rooms open to visitors show carved and painted cedar ceilings, wall paintings and zellige. Plan an hour to an hour and a half. The listed entry fee is 25 dirhams, but fees and hours change, so confirm on the spot.
Directly across the boulevard, the Cinema Museum displays painted backdrops and decor from productions shot in the region. It has opened Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and closed on Sunday, with separate adult and child tickets. Together the two visits fill a relaxed morning without a car.
Ride to the Kingdom of Heaven set
If you would rather be outdoors, the shortest guided ride we run leaves Ouarzazate for the fortress built for the battle scenes of Kingdom of Heaven. The one hour quad ride to the film set starts from 30 USD, and the same route exists on horseback from 25 USD and by buggy from 100 USD. It suits first time riders because the guide sets the pace to match your experience.
If you have half a day
A half day opens up the places that make this corner of Morocco different: the working studios, the oasis of Fint and the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou.
Tour Atlas Film Studios
Atlas Film Studios sits 3 km west of town on the N9 toward Marrakech. Guided visits walk you through indoor and outdoor sets that change with new productions, and the studio is still in use, so you may see a crew at work. It has opened daily from 10 am to 6 pm, and a petit taxi from the centre is a short, inexpensive ride. Combine it with the museum for a cinema themed half day; our guide to Ouarzazate film studios and locations covers the details.
Reach Fint oasis off road
Fint lies about 12 km south of Ouarzazate, below the line of the plateau, so you only see the palms when the track starts to drop. By car the rocky road takes around 45 minutes. The more memorable way in is the three hour quad ride to Fint, from 75 USD, or the horse ride to Fint, from 70 USD. Both include a mint tea stop in the villages.
Arrive at Ait Ben Haddou the slow way
The UNESCO listed ksar is about 30 km from town. Most people drive there, but you can also ride across plateaus and dry riverbeds and walk in at the end. Half day rides to Ait Ben Haddou start from 85 USD by quad, 90 USD on horseback and 250 USD by buggy, with free time inside the ksar. The half day quad tour is a good way to combine riding with the visit.
If you have a full day
A full day lets you either stay close and ride, or go further with a driver.
- Ride all day. The full day quad and buggy tours link Ait Ben Haddou, the Kingdom of Heaven set and Fint; the full day horse ride links the film set, Kasbah Tifoultoute and Fint. See all quad routes for durations and starting prices.
- Follow the Draa south. The Zagora and Draa Valley day trip crosses the Anti Atlas to Agdz, Tamnougalt, Zagora and Tamegroute, finishing at the first dunes of Tinfou. Lunch is included and the price starts at 95 USD per person for a group of four.
- Head east for roses and gorges. The Valley of Roses and Dades Gorges day takes in the Skoura palm grove, Kelaat M’Gouna and a visit to nomad families who live in caves.
- Go up into the hills. The amethyst day trip takes you by Land Cruiser to the Berber village of Tiggert, with a mule ride and lunch in a family home.
All four day trips from Ouarzazate are private, with an English speaking driver.
If you can stay overnight
The dunes are the reason many visitors come south, and they are not a day trip from Ouarzazate. Erg Chebbi near Merzouga is around five hours away by road, the Mhamid dunes about four and a half, and Erg Chigaga around six with a long off road stretch at the end. That is why every desert tour includes at least one night in a camp.
A short option is the two day Erg Chebbi tour, with a sunset camel ride and a night in a nomad camp. If you are torn between the two big dune seas, read Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga before you decide.
Things to do that cost nothing
- Walk along Boulevard Mohamed V in the late afternoon and watch the light change on the walls of Taourirt kasbah.
- Stop in the Skoura palm grove if you are passing on the N10. A local guide is worth hiring if you want to understand the khettara water channels that feed the gardens.
- Pause where the track drops into Fint if you drive there yourself; it is the moment the oasis appears.
Putting it together
For most visitors the best mix is one town visit, one ride and one longer trip. If you are still deciding how long to stay, our guide on how many days to spend in Ouarzazate has sample plans, and the best time to visit explains how the season changes each activity. When you know what you want, send a request through the booking page or on WhatsApp, and our team confirms availability and the final price in writing.
